  • Same fee-free structure, higher yield

Features

  • Tiered structure: six balance bands, currently collapsing into two effective rates
  • 3.65% on sub-$250k balances beats nearly every big-name competitor
  • No minimum opening deposit and no monthly fees
  • Frequent cash bonus offers for new savings customers
  • Online-only US arm of the British banking giant
  • CDs available; no checking, no cards

Pros

  • +One of the highest rates available from a global systemically important bank brand
  • +Tier math is simple and the sub-$250k rate is already excellent
  • +Regular $200-class signup bonuses stack on top of the strong rate

Cons

  • Bare-bones platform: no checking, no ATM, dated app
  • ACH transfers take 2-3 business days
  • The top tier exceeds the $250k FDIC cap at a single bank — split large balances

Our Take

Barclays quietly out-pays Marcus, Ally, Amex, and Discover while asking for nothing: no minimums, no activity, no fee traps. The trade is a spartan, savings-only experience with slow transfers. As a pure vault for cash you rarely touch, it is one of the best risk-adjusted deals from a name-brand bank, especially when a signup bonus is live.

Best for: Rate-focused savers who want a major-bank name without minimums
