Our Take
Betterment Checking is alive, well, and quietly one of the most travel-friendly debit cards issued anywhere, reimbursing both ATM fees and foreign transaction fees without caps. As a standalone bank it is thin, with no interest and no cash handling, but as the spending layer in front of Cash Reserve and a Betterment portfolio it is exactly enough. Schwab remains the safer long-term bet if you want a traveler's account from a banking-first institution.
Best for: Betterment investors and travelers who want every ATM and FX fee handed back
