Pros
- +Real branches near bases worldwide, rare among accounts on this page

- +Navy Federal's broader lineup (auto loans, mortgages, cards) is consistently excellent for members
- +Membership extends to family members, and once in, always in
Cons
- −Strictly limited eligibility; civilians without a military connection cannot join
- −0.05% APY is a rounding error
- −Inactivity quietly downgrades you to the rebate-free EveryDay account
- −Free Active Duty Checking is strictly better for those who qualify for it
Our Take
For military families, Navy Federal is less a bank choice than a membership you inherit, and Free Easy Checking is the right default account inside it: free with trivial activity, $10 in ATM rebates, and branch access where service members actually live. Active duty members should take Free Active Duty Checking instead for the bigger rebate. The rates are nothing; the institution and its lending arm are the point.
Best for: Military members and families who want branch banking plus solid digital tools
