  • One-time 5,000-mile bonus on your first JAL international flight paid with the card
  • 10% sector bonus miles on JAL group flights
  • Discounts on JAL inflight shopping and Japan duty-free

Why it earns its spot

  • +Cheapest US entry point to JAL Mileage Bank, a stellar oneworld currency
  • +No foreign transaction fees

Where it costs you

  • Basic tier's 1 mile per $2 is among the worst earn rates in the industry
  • Small bonus gated behind $7,000 of spend

The Compound Verdict

Like its ANA sibling, this FNBO card exists to keep JAL Mileage Bank accounts alive and collect Japan-travel perks, not to win spreadsheets. Pay the $50 Premium Rewards upgrade or do not bother at all, because the half-mile base tier is indefensible. JAL miles spend beautifully, so a low-cost direct feed has real niche value.
