Our Take
Ally's Spending Account (the renamed Interest Checking) is the safest default online checking account in America. Nothing about it is best-in-class on yield, but everything works, nothing charges a fee, and the buckets-plus-savings ecosystem is excellent. Pair it with Ally's savings for the APY and you have a complete no-fee banking stack. Cash-heavy earners should look elsewhere since there is no way to deposit paper money.
Best for: Anyone who wants dead-simple free online checking with great budgeting tools
