Pros

  • +Dead-simple integration if you already manage Amex cards in the same app
  • +No fees or minimums of any kind
  • +Amex customer service reputation carries over to banking

Cons

  • 3.10% sits at the bottom of the big-name HYSA tier
  • ACH transfers run slower than Marcus or Ally (1-3 business days)
  • No buckets, no joint sub-accounts, minimal tooling

Our Take

The Amex HYSA is fine, and fine is the whole pitch. You get a trustworthy household name, zero fees, and one fewer login if you carry Amex cards. But the rate persistently trails Marcus by a quarter point and the rate leaders by more than a full point, and transfers are on the slow side. Convenience product, not a rate play.

Best for: Amex cardholders who want savings in the same app and don't chase rates
