Pros
- +Honest flat rate with an ATM card thrown in
- +Axos is a real chartered bank, not a fintech wrapper
- +Bundle boost is attainable for direct-deposit households
Cons
- −UFB's signature move is launching a new account name at a higher rate while old accounts quietly decay — you must call and ask to be moved
- −3.26% base now trails Barclays, CIT, and the rate leaders
- −Bundle requirements are heavy for a +0.20% boost
Our Take
UFB pays decently and includes an ATM card, but this is the bank that perfected the rename-and-strand rate game: Portfolio Savings succeeds a half-dozen identical accounts whose holders got left on dead rates. If you open it, calendar a quarterly check and ask to be upgraded the moment a new name appears. Savers who won't do that maintenance should take Barclays or Marcus instead.
Best for: Vigilant rate-watchers who will police the rename game
