Our Take

USAA Classic Checking is a perfectly fine, completely free account that exists mostly to anchor members who came for the insurance. Early military pay and the $10 ATM rebate cover the basics. Head-to-head, Navy Federal wins on branches and lending and a high-yield online bank wins on rates, so the best argument for Classic Checking is consolidation if USAA already has your auto and home policies.

Best for: USAA insurance members who want banking under the same roof
