Benefits
- ✦Waived balance transfer fees on transfers made in the first 60 days
- ✦Free monthly FICO score before that was standard
Why it earns its spot
- +The only major no-fee balance transfer offer of its era
- +Saved debt-payers the standard 3 to 5 percent transfer haircut
Where it costs you
- −Earned zero rewards
- −Useless the moment the intro APR window closed
The Compound Verdict
Slate never earned a point and never needed to: its 0 percent intro APR with no balance transfer fee in the first 60 days was unique among major issuers, making it the default debt-consolidation recommendation for most of the 2010s. Chase pulled it from sale in late 2020 and launched Slate Edge in 2021. Note that the Chase Slate name was revived on a new 2026 card, which we cover separately, this page is the original.
