Why it earns its spot

  • +4th Night Free routinely returned more than the annual fee on a single booking
  • +5x on air and dining beat every competitor when it launched

Where it costs you

  • Citi stripped travel protections in 2019 and capped 4th Night Free at twice per year
  • Each devaluation made the 495 dollar fee harder to defend

The Compound Verdict

From 2015 to 2018 the Prestige was arguably the best premium travel card in America: an uncapped 4th Night Free benefit, 5x categories, and a 250 dollar travel credit. Citi bled it dry instead of defending it, capping the hotel benefit and cutting protections in 2019, then quietly closing applications in July 2021. Grandfathered holders still carry it, and the Strata Elite is its spiritual successor.
