Benefits

- ✦No annual fee
Why it earns its spot
- +The old earn-1%-redeem-1%-into-TD-account design is gone; 2% is now unconditional
- +$200 bonus beats what Citi Double Cash and Active Cash typically offer
- +Useful balance transfer intro on top of the rewards
Where it costs you
- −Only available in TD's East Coast footprint states
- −3% foreign transaction fee
- −No transfer partners or points upside, cash back only
The Compound Verdict
The original Double Up made you redeem into a TD checking or savings account to hit 2%; the current card just pays 2% flat, which moves it from gimmick to genuine Citi Double Cash competitor. Add the $200 bonus and it arguably leads the no-fee 2% category for people who can get it. The catch is geography: TD only issues in its East Coast states.
