The Compound Verdict
The Premier World Elite was HSBC's pitch to globally minded clients: lounge access, travel credits and a 395 dollar fee that vanished if you held Premier checking. It died of corporate strategy rather than product failure, as HSBC announced its exit from US mass retail banking in May 2021, sold its branch network, and wound down its consumer card portfolio with it. A reminder that a card is only as durable as its issuer's commitment to the market.
